Twas the night before the trip starts....

.....and all through the house, the smell of french onion soup and red wine was still wafting, a smell I could not douse.

And that is as far as I'm taking the rhyming for now.

A few weeks ago, I was struck with the need to find sun and surf. I had had it with the cold, and I remember feeling healthier, happier, and more vibrant when I was near sun, sand, and water...so I, basically on a whim, decided I should seek these things out. I thought about Aruba for a short while, but settled on Florida (economically more practical, also more time efficient). Everything sort of fell into place to make it work, with minimal effort on my part, so I decided to take the trip. I also decided to drive, on my own. To me, there is something romantic, and soul searching about that kind of a solo long drive. It reminds me of some part of some movie (Elizabethtown meet A Goofy Movie perhaps?) mixed with excerpts of the book: "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance", mixed with old family vacations, and falsely romanticized reminiscences of the worlds largest ball of twine. In any case, for someone (namely me) who has been searching for some unnamed, "something" that is missing, it seemed appropriate for a physical journey to help represent that search. Also, if the sun and sand and surf brings me happiness....why not? Not to mention, the added perk of getting to visit family and friends along the way.

So, my adventurous spirit, which is all too often suppressed in favor of "adult life", reared its sometimes foolish head, and the plans were set.

Since I feel like this journey is supposed to be significant in some way....or, at least, it might be interesting (I mean, this is me....crazy things tend to happen to me), I've decided to blog about it. Maybe about my particular musings, or my obviously deep, earth shattering philosophical discoveries, or any fun people I meet along the way.

At the moment, I have this feeling that the theme of this trip is going to be......very apropos, given the whole "spring break" thing......NEW LIFE.

So, spring break began with a wonderful (and fancy) celebration of my birthday (thanks to all my fabulous friends!)- the dawning of a new year in my life.

The next day, I attended a celebration of a friend, who is moving to Korea....the dawning of new things in his life as well.

At this party, I was prompted to take a fortune cookie. The fortune read:

"A new relationship is about to blossom. You will be blessed."

SWEET! I'll take that. More new life.

So, I went to the truck stop and bought an atlas (because, minus the blogging, I'm doing this the old fashioned way.....not even google map directions!) and a friend lent me a tire gauge, so after I finish up a few things tomorrow, I will be hitting the open road.

I'm not sure when, or if, I'll have an internet connection....but I plan to update when something exciting happens/when I can.

The last time I was in Florida, the Gulf nearly swallowed my brother and I, and our family/friends, whole (makes for a pretty good story-made the front page of the local paper-I should tell it sometime), and the last time I felt randomly adventurous, Adam and I tried to backpack across the states of Wisconsin and Illinois, but we didn't get too far before we ended up touring a Jelly Belly Factory and hitch-hiking with a pizza delivery man (that trip is an interesting story too)...so basically, this trip could result in some exciting stories to tell.
